The Lawn Barber

About The Lawn Barber

Out toward the Celery Bog the land opens up and April wind runs straight across the west side of West Lafayette, hurrying the grass into its first real growth. The Lawn Barber shows up for that opening cut with the blades sharp, because a clean shear stands back up green while a dull one leaves the tips frayed and brown. Then it is the regular routine week by week: mowing, trimming, an edge line laid along the walk like a part cut straight. Prairie-edge soil out here dries and greens in quick turns, so the cut gets adjusted to what the lawn is actually doing. A finished yard should look deliberate from the mailbox, and that is the standard.
