Hawkins Lawn Care & Snow Removal

About Hawkins Lawn Care & Snow Removal

When the wind swings northwest off Lake Michigan, Portage gets the snow the rest of Indiana only reads about, bands setting up over open water and unloading inland for hours. Hawkins Lawn Care & Snow Removal runs those nights, plowing and shoveling drives and walks along Samuelson and the streets behind it so that four in the morning is somebody else's problem and not yours. The rest of the year the same trucks trade blades for mowers: cutting, trimming, edging and cleanups from the first green through the last leaf. There is a particular pride in a drive cleared to the pavement before the porch light goes off. Salt down, path open, coffee still hot — that is a good morning's work.
