Sellersburg sits right where the flat Ohio River bottomland starts climbing into the Knobs, steep wooded hills that the interstate has to grade its way around on its run north out of Louisville. Atlas Service Group works that same uneven ground—driveways cut into hillsides, lots built on graded fill near the interstate interchange—clearing snow that behaves differently on a slope than it does on the level farmland just a few miles east. A grade that's clear at the bottom can still be glazed solid at the top where the wind off the hills keeps it shaded, so the crew runs each hillside drive more than once some mornings. Trucks work out from Sellersburg before the I-65 commute into Louisville picks up, clearing the lots and driveways closest to the interchange first. By midmorning the hillside grades that were glazed at sunrise are running clear again.
