Royal Tree Service

About Royal Tree Service

Scottsburg's square keeps its old shade trees through every kind of weather, and Royal Tree Service is the crew that climbs them each year to take out what's dead or hanging loose before it can come down on its own. When an ice storm bends those same limbs low over the sidewalks and driveways downtown, the trucks that would otherwise be hauling brush switch over to clearing the snow and ice piling up underneath them instead. In-town driveways here tend to be short and shaded, which means they hold onto packed snow and ice longer than the open lots out past the edge of Scottsburg, and the crew works those first before the walk to the courthouse gets any worse. Mornings start on the square itself, then move block by block through the older neighborhoods where the biggest trees still stand. By afternoon, what was ice-slick under the branches at sunrise is bare concrete again.
