Miles Mowing

About Miles Mowing

The roads out of Portland run in straight miles, corner to corner, with the Bluff Point turbines turning slow along the horizon. Miles Mowing puts those miles on for a living, pulling into yards across town and out along the county lines to mow, trim and edge. Open-country grass behaves differently than in-town grass — more wind on it, more sun, and simply more of it — so it takes a machine that keeps moving to stay in front. The best moment is the last pass: engine off, drive swept, a big yard suddenly looking half its size because it is finally in order. Then back out to the road for the next one.
