An excavating company already owns the machines for moving earth around a foundation, and in Plymouth's winter months those same machines swing a blade instead of a bucket, working the gravel lots and access roads at building sites on the edge of town. Snow gets pushed off staging areas so material deliveries can still reach a job site, and the long unpaved drives leading back to rural properties get cleared wide enough for a dump truck to pass a pickup without either one backing into a ditch. Driveways at finished homes in the newer developments north of town get the same equipment turned to residential work, plowed in a few steady passes. Culverts and low drainage spots get checked for ice buildup, since a frozen culvert under a gravel drive is the same problem in January as an eroded one in April. Storm's end leaves both the job sites and the driveways around them open and workable.
