The ground under Plainfield is glacial clay, dense as a closed fist, and after a summer of mowers and foot traffic it packs down until water sits on top instead of soaking in. September is when that gets fixed. Raptor Aeration pulls cores across a lawn in overlapping passes, leaving the plugs to melt back into the surface while air and rain finally reach the roots, and seed dropped behind the machine slips straight into the holes. Cool nights and warm soil give new grass its best chance in central Indiana, and by the second mowing in spring the thin spots have closed. Mowing, trimming and edging carry the yard the rest of the year, but the aerator is where a tired lawn turns the corner.
