Peru wakes up slow after a snow, fog still hanging low over the Wabash River bottoms while the streets above are already getting plowed clear. This is where the day starts for a one-truck operation working driveways and short commercial lots around town, blade down before the fog burns off the river flats. Each property gets a straightforward pass — driveway cleared corner to corner, walk shoveled to the door, a scattering of salt on steps where morning cold turns yesterday's melt back to ice. Old Broadway's storefronts and the quieter side streets near the river both get worked the same way, property by property. Midmorning finds the fog lifted off the Wabash and the town underneath sitting clear down to the concrete.
