About Newburgh Lawn & Landscape

Just downriver from town, the Newburgh Lock and Dam holds the Ohio at a working depth for the barges that pass through day and night, and the streets that line the riverbank hear those horns long before most people are awake. This lawn and landscape crew starts its winter mornings along those riverside blocks, clearing driveways and walks while the lock's floodlights are still the brightest thing in sight. There's a rhythm to it — plow, shovel the step, salt the walk, move to the next house — that matches the barges easing through the chamber just out of view. By the time the sun comes up over the Kentucky side of the river, the streets closest to the water are already dry and salted, ready for whatever the rest of the day brings. It's quiet, patient work, done in the same dark hours the river itself never really sleeps through.
