Arnolds Mulch and Excavating

About Arnolds Mulch and Excavating

Where the White River bends behind downtown Muncie, the old rail corridor runs flat and low, and snow collects there differently than it does on the surrounding streets. Arnolds Mulch and Excavating brings heavy equipment out to that stretch before sunrise, pushing snow off gravel lots and lanes that a plow truck alone couldn't clear fast enough. The river runs slow and dark below the bank, mostly hidden by bare trees, while the equipment works back and forth in the cold. It's loud, physical work — diesel engines, steel blades, piles of snow stacked higher than a truck bed by the end of a heavy storm. When the sun finally clears the trees along the river, the lot is bare and the crew's already three jobs down the road.
