Mishawaka's old riverside factory district, the brick blocks that used to turn out rubber boots and tires, still fills up early with people reporting for a first shift, and the parking lots out there can't afford to sit under snow past sunrise. Fast Track Excavating pushes those lots clear before the early cars start pulling in, working fast along the river while the rest of the Princess City is still dark. The equipment does in minutes what a shovel crew would take an hour to finish, stacking plowed snow along the lot's edges in long ridges. Down along the water, the St. Joseph steams faintly in the cold, about the only thing in the district that hasn't slowed for winter. By the time an old shift whistle would have sounded, the lot's bare and salted, ready for tires instead of snow.
