Knoll & Sons Tree Service

About Knoll & Sons Tree Service

An ice storm off the lake can turn Michigan City's old oaks — the ones shading Washington Park and the streets nearby — brittle overnight, limbs giving way under the glaze by morning. Knoll & Sons Tree Service goes out once the ice sets, clearing the downed wood from driveways and walkways before anyone's boots need to touch it. The work is loud with chainsaws and careful all the same, piece by piece, until the path to the front door opens up again. There's a particular relief in a driveway free of broken branches while the rest of the block still glitters under its coating of ice. It's a job that follows the weather rather than the calendar, and Michigan City's lake winters keep it busy enough.
