About Chavez & Sons Landscaping

The lots out along Johnson Road run wide and open, full sun on the grass until the lake breeze finally turns inland around three in the afternoon. Chavez & Sons Landscaping cuts through the heat of a Michigan City July on that ground — long straight passes, trimmed fence lines, edges held sharp where the turf wants to creep over the concrete. Big lawns reward rhythm more than anything, a route run the same way each week so the stripes fall in the same direction and the growth never gets ahead of anyone. Cleanups come at either end of the season, when the yard needs clearing rather than cutting. When the breeze does arrive, it crosses acres of grass that were shaggy at eight and are level at two.
