About Lawn & Shrub Inc

Ninth Street Hill wakes slowly in May, brick streets still cool under the maples while the terraced front yards catch the first light coming up out of the Wabash valley. Lawn & Shrub Inc works those stepped lawns the way the hill asks for them — mowing along the contour, edging the walks and stone steps clean, keeping shrub lines trimmed back off old porch rails so the houses can breathe. Fertilizing and weed control go down on Tippecanoe County's heavy ground with one eye on the rain building west of the river. There is a plain, real pleasure in the last pass of the morning, when the mower lines run true down the slope and the hedge reads straight as a chalk mark against a century of painted clapboard. When the leaves come, the crew comes back for them, and the hill is handed over to winter tidy.
