About James Wagner Cleanup services and hauling

La Porte calls itself the City of Lakes, and downtown, where the courthouse square backs up almost to the edge of Stone Lake, the streets are old and narrow enough that a heavy snow leaves nowhere to push it but away entirely. That's the job James Wagner Cleanup services and hauling picks up every winter — not just plowing a lot but hauling the piled snow clear of tight curbs and loading docks where there's no room left to stack it. The lake effect off Lake Michigan, close enough to the north to matter, can turn a light forecast into a foot of snow overnight, burying the same alleys behind Lincolnway that were bare the evening before. Working those alleys by headlight, truckload after truckload hauled off so a business can open its back door in the morning, is unglamorous but necessary work in a town built this close to the water. By sunrise, the curbs downtown are clear to the pavement and the lake sits flat and grey just past the courthouse lawn, like nothing happened overnight.
