The Turfguy

About The Turfguy

The first cut of the year in Kokomo smells like nothing else: cold ground, cut green, the ballfields over at Jackson Morrow Park drying out just enough to walk on. The Turfguy starts there, with the spring cleanup that pulls winter out of a yard, sticks and matted leaf and the salt-burned strip along the drive. After that the season settles into weekly mowing, close trimming, and edges cut back to where they belong after months of creeping. Indiana springs swing hard between a frost and eighty degrees, so the early passes come high and the height only drops once the turf is truly awake. By Memorial Day the lawn is running on its own, and the job becomes keeping it there.
