Scherf's Lawn Service

About Scherf's Lawn Service

South of Knox the ground turns sandy and the road opens onto Bass Lake, where cottage yards run all the way down to the water. Scherf's Lawn Service takes care of those lots and the ones back in town, mowing them out, string trimming around posts and stairways and mailbox stands, cutting a clean border where the grass meets the drive. Midsummer in Starke County is already hot by ten in the morning, so the day starts early and the route follows the shade around the block. A lawn trimmed short and even before a weekend at the lake is a small gift to whoever pulls in on Friday evening. When the season winds down there is cleanup to do, leaves pulled off the beds and the yard put to rest until the grass wakes up hungry again.
