Happy Lawn

About Happy Lawn

Kewanna sits low and wide in Fulton County, where the corn runs right up to the edge of every yard and the grain elevator is the tallest thing for miles. Happy Lawn works the early hours here, when dew still silvers the grass and the wind hasn't yet come up off Bruce Lake. There's mowing, trimming and edging on the short blocks in town, and the longer stretches out along the county roads, each one finished with a clean line where lawn meets gravel. A yard cut in straight passes under that big open Indiana sky is a plain kind of satisfaction, the sidewalk blown clear before the truck pulls away. By evening the light goes gold across the fields, and the lawns along the way look tended and squared up for whatever the week brings.
