Crown Hill sits on some of the only real elevation in Indianapolis, high enough that the cemetery's old iron gates look down over the city's downtown skyline on a clear winter evening. Schott Services works the residential streets below that ridge, where the grade drops just enough to make an icy hill genuinely dangerous rather than just inconvenient. Trucks run those blocks at dusk and again before dawn, since a slope that's clear at six can ice over completely by midnight once the temperature drops. The work leans on care as much as speed — a driveway on a grade needs a different touch than a flat one, and a sidewalk at the bottom of a hill catches whatever runs off the one above it. By the second pass, the street is scraped down to pavement from the ridge to the low ground, one of the few genuinely hilly stretches in an otherwise flat city.
