Ben Smith Lawn Care

About Ben Smith Lawn Care

Huntertown used to be a crossroads store and a grain elevator, and pieces of that are still visible between the subdivisions that have filled in the farmland north of Fort Wayne over the last couple of decades. Ben Smith Lawn Care works both halves of that town — the older farmhouses set back from the road on big lots, and the newer streets of close-built houses where every driveway needs clearing at roughly the same hour. Cedar Creek runs through the area, and the low ground near it tends to hold cold air longer than the rest of Allen County, so those driveways are often the last to lose their ice. The crew plows in a set order, working the newer streets first since morning commuters into Fort Wayne have the least room to wait, then finishing out along the quieter roads toward the creek. What's left by midmorning is a town that looks like it planned for winter better than it actually did.
