About Leicht Services Stump Grinding LLC

The yards along the Grand Calumet in Hammond's older neighborhoods still carry the stumps of trees that came down decades ago, back when the mills along this stretch of river ran at a different scale, and Leicht Services has spent plenty of seasons grinding those stumps flush to the ground one yard at a time. Come winter, the same trucks that haul grinding equipment through these streets switch over to plows, working the same properties whose stumps they've cleared and whose driveways now need clearing of a different kind. This part of Hammond sits low and close to industry, refinery light glowing across the water some nights even through falling snow, and a storm off the lake can leave slush frozen hard to the pavement by morning if a driveway sits too long. Knowing a yard's layout from the stump work makes plowing the drive next to it just as fast, a practical overlap in doing both jobs for the same neighborhood. Once the plow's made its pass, the whole property — stump-free ground and driveway alike — sits clean under whatever fell overnight.
