The old houses along Greenwood's historic streets sit close to the road, narrow front walks and porch steps that catch every bit of drift a storm leaves behind, and Brian-Kyles works that stretch of Old Town before most of those porch lights have even come on. It's close, hands-on work on these blocks — a walk here, a set of steps there, driveways barely wide enough for one car — done as much by hand as by machine because a plow blade doesn't fit half these properties. Johnson County storms tend to come through overnight, and the crew is out early enough that homeowners find their steps salted and clear before the coffee's finished brewing. This older part of Greenwood needs a different kind of attention than a subdivision does, one property at a time instead of one long commercial lot, and it shows in how clean each little walk looks by sunrise. This end of Old Town is usually dealt with well before the rest of the street stirs.
