Ralphie's Lawn Service

About Ralphie's Lawn Service

By the middle of October the maples on Greentown's older streets let go nearly all at once, and a yard that was green on Friday is ankle-deep gold by Monday. Ralphie's Lawn Service meets that turn head-on — the last mowings of the year, leaves gathered off the grass and out of the bed lines, walks cleared so the frost has something bare to land on. Work runs right up to dusk this time of year, headlights on in the driveway, the air over the fields going blue and cold. There is a plain kind of pride in handing back a lawn that is put away properly for winter, tidy at the edges and ready to come back green. Come spring the mowing picks up again in the same yards, same careful lines.
