From the farm roads outside town, the one thing you can pick out of the Greensburg skyline is the tree growing out of the courthouse tower, a strange green flag over the county seat that's been there longer than anyone can quite explain. Schwering Excavating works those same outlying roads, plowing long farmhouse driveways and gravel lanes that lead back toward that same skyline from every direction. Decatur County's fields sit wide open once the corn's been cut, and a storm crossing them in January leaves snow piled in whatever shape the wind decided, not the shape of the lane underneath it. Equipment built to grade a basement or cut a drainage line handles that kind of drift without much trouble, opening a lane end to end where a smaller plow would just push the same snow back and forth. Coming into town afterward, past the courthouse with its odd tree still holding on above the square, the lane behind is clean the whole way back to the barn.
