Cazzell's Turf Tamers

About Cazzell's Turf Tamers

By July in southern Indiana the cicadas are loud in the trees and the grass grows like it has somewhere to be — and that is the season Cazzell's Turf Tamers was named for. Taming turf here means keeping ahead of humid-summer growth: weekly mowing, tight trim work around mailboxes and limestone steps, edges cut clean where lawn meets drive. Ellettsville yards are rarely flat, so the crew reads each slope and swale and mows it the way it wants to be mowed. Midday heat, afternoon thunderheads building over Richland Township — the schedule holds anyway. What is left behind is turf that lies down in even rows, calm and kept, until the next week calls them back.
