Lance's Lawn Care

About Lance's Lawn Care

A single truck sits idling at the end of a driveway on the edge of De Motte, exhaust curling up white against a sky just starting to gray at the edges. Lance's Lawn Care works this same patch of Jasper County streets and rural driveways in winter that it trims and mows through the warm months, one plowed lane at a time. The town is small enough that a route can be walked in memory before it's ever driven, which house sits low and drifts first, which lane catches the wind off the open fields. There's a quiet rhythm to clearing a driveway before the household inside has poured its first cup of coffee, blade scraping down to bare concrete in one clean pass. By full daylight, the truck has moved on to the next lane, and another patch of De Motte is ready for the day.
