The clubhouse sits above the golf course on the Lake of the Four Seasons grounds, and once the greens go dormant for the year the building doesn't quiet down with them — there are still winter dinners, meetings, and members stopping in, all of them needing a lot and a walk that don't care what the fairways look like under a foot of snow. Clearing here means the clubhouse parking lot first, wide enough for an evening event's worth of cars, then the front walk and entry steps where a member in dress shoes shouldn't have to think about ice, then the service drive around back where deliveries still come through in any weather. The cart paths and fairways stay buried until spring, snow held there being no different than grass held there, but the building itself runs on its own calendar all winter long. Keeping that one lot and that one walk clear is a small job next to the whole golf course, and it's also the only part of the property that actually needs it in January.
