Southlake Services

About Southlake Services

In late August, when the fairgrounds by Fancher Lake fill with lights and the whole county seems to funnel into Crown Point, the lawns still need cutting — and that is where Southlake Services is, out early while the midway sleeps. Mornings in this part of Lake County have a particular stillness, mist lifting off the water, mower lines appearing in the wet grass like the first sentences of the day. The work is lawn care done plainly and well: mowing, trimming, edging along drives and sidewalks until a yard looks finished from the street. Crown Point sits where Indiana's flat farmland meets its busiest corner of towns, and Southlake runs that seam, from in-town blocks to Merrillville and Schererville next door. By the time the fair opens its gates, the grass is already squared away.
