Cicero grew up around water — Morse Reservoir laps right against the edge of town, and by January the same lake that fills with pontoon boats every July is rimmed with ice thick enough for a shanty or two out past the no-wake buoys. Nyland Landscapes spends the warm months shaping the yards that run down to that shoreline and spends the cold ones plowing the same driveways, because a lake-house lane packed under a foot of snow is still someone's only way out to work. Docks get roped off and driveways get cleared before the ice fishermen are even up, cottage roads that wind close to the water get salted where lake moisture keeps refreezing them, and the short, steep drives common along the reservoir's bluff side get treated so a car can actually get traction leaving the garage. Depending on the month, that same stretch of shoreline gets one treatment or the other, and either way the goal holds: keep the way down to the water open, whatever Morse Reservoir did to it overnight.
