Chesterton sits close enough to Lake Michigan that a lake-effect band can drop six inches on Broadway while Valparaiso, ten miles inland, gets none at all. 219clean reads that difference every winter morning, running trucks out from the yard while the dune ridges are still catching the first gray light. Driveways along the Yellow Brick Road blocks get cleared before the shops open, parking areas near the South Shore platform get pushed back so commuters can find their cars, and walkways get salted against the freeze that follows every squall off the lake. There's a particular satisfaction in a lot scraped down to bare asphalt while snow is still falling three streets over — that's the standard here. The dunes will always send more; the trucks go back out.
