The ranch houses of Home Place go particularly quiet the morning after a fresh snow, their streets gone soft and rounded under a few new inches. Snow's Exteriors works those established Carmel neighborhoods driveway by driveway, clearing the low, wide drives built for an earlier generation of cars and doing it early enough that nobody has to back out blind. These streets don't have the newer subdivisions' steep driveways or tight turnarounds, but the trees have grown in tall enough that their shade means ice lingers here longer than in a treeless new development. The crew works methodically down each street, one driveway after the next, so the whole block ends up clear at roughly the same time instead of one house waiting while its neighbors already have bare pavement. Finishing a route through Home Place with every driveway scraped back to pavement, porch lights just starting to flick on, is a clean way to end a morning's work.
