About Johnson Outdoor Services

The Yellow River curls past Bourbon on its way through Marshall County's flat, open farmland, and in winter the wind off those fields has nothing to slow it down before it reaches Main Street. Johnson Outdoor Services runs the roads in and out of town, clearing farm driveways where drifts build low and long across open gravel, and shorter in-town drives where wind piles snow hard against a garage door instead. The grain elevator north of town marks the edge of one regular route; the rail line through the middle of Bourbon marks another. Salt goes down on steps and walks before ice can grab hold, and the last stretch of a farm lane gets the same care as the shortest driveway in town. Most mornings the wind is already working against the cleared ground before the crew's even finished the route, so the next pass gets planned before the first one's cold.
