West of Yorkville the prairie comes back all at once in May — bluestem greening at Silver Springs, redwing blackbirds staking out the sloughs, everything growing at a speed you can nearly hear. Rods Lawn Services opens its season in that same rush: spring cleanups, the first cut of the year, beds cut back to a clean line, trimming close around mailboxes, posts and foundations. From then until the leaves come down it is one yard after another on a weekly turn, mowing and edging so a place always looks like somebody is minding it.
