Tuesday, mid-July, ninety degrees before ten o'clock, the plain arithmetic of a Wood River summer. Mowing and More runs the route the name promises: cut, trim, edge, blow off, next address, right through the afternoon, the grass falling in even rows behind the machine. The more shows up in the small places, the strip between sidewalk and street, the alley side of the garage, the mulch bed line held straight, the cleanups spring and fall insist on. There is no mystery to any of it. Just a town's worth of yards kept in order, one street at a time, and a windshield view of good work receding in the mirror.
