October does something particular to Wood River's older streets: the silver maples let go all at once, and by Saturday the yards are ankle-deep in yellow. Lawn Lovers takes the season at its word, clearing leaves down to bare turf, putting the last cuts of the year on, keeping trimming and edging sharp while everything else goes soft and brown. The name is not decoration; grass answers to being paid attention to, and it shows the following April. Bags loaded, walks blown, the curb line swept behind them. A yard goes into winter tidy and comes out of it ready.
