After a June rain the black soil around Winnebago pushes everything up at once — corn in the sections, grass in the yards, the whole village a week ahead of its own schedule. Armenta Lawn Service keeps pace with it: mowing on a set rotation, trimming out the fence rows and mailbox posts, edging the walks, and clearing the yard in spring and again in fall. Out here a lawn can go from tidy to shaggy in five days, so showing up when you said you would is most of the craft. The rest is a clean cut and a swept drive at the end of it. Winnebago is home, with Pecatonica, Seward and the west side of Rockford nearby.
