Milwaukee Avenue is Wheeling's front door, a long ribbon of storefronts and kitchens where the lot has to be ready before the dinner hour no matter what the sky is doing. Andy Pollina & Sons works both halves of that year: mowing, trimming and bed care through the warm months, plowing and salting once the pavement turns hard. On a summer evening the work moves down a block of parkway strips, each one edged to a clean lip against the concrete. On a winter morning that same block is an entirely different problem, measured in passes of the blade and in where the piles can sit without blocking a space. Two seasons, one street, and a standard that does not soften between them.
