The first real storm of December shows up over the lake as a gray wall, and Waukegan gets maybe an hour before it lands. GreenWorks Landscape spends that hour getting ready — plows mounted, salt loaded, the night's route put in order. Then it is lots opened, drives pushed back to their edges, walks shoveled and treated so morning traffic can move. Snow keeps its own hours and the work happens inside them, mostly in the dark. A cleared lot at first light is worth the whole cold night.
