By seven on a June morning the grass on Wauconda's side streets is still heavy with dew, and the air over Bangs Lake hasn't decided to be hot yet. That is when Apple Landscaping likes to begin — mower warm, the first pass laid down straight, the smell of cut grass drifting toward the water. The work is mowing, trimming, edging and keeping a yard tidy week after week through a long Lake County summer. The reward is plain enough: a green rectangle with crisp borders, waiting for somebody to walk out onto it barefoot.
