Late August in Watson, dusk lasting forever, fireflies coming up out of the grass and a train working its way north somewhere past the last row of houses. Nowitzke Lawn Care keeps the village and the places out along the gravel roads in trim — mowing on a set rotation, string trimming around posts and foundations, edges held along drives and walks, clippings cleared off. Come fall it is leaves and the closing cleanup; come spring it is opening everything back up again. Yards run big out here, with room to swing a mower and nothing much to hem them in. The reward is the view down a mowed lot at sunset, every line running the same direction.
