The dam between Sterling and Rock Falls keeps the river loud year round — white water in July, black water steaming under a cold snap in January. Sisson Lawn & Landscape works both ends of that year: mowing, trimming and seasonal cleanups while the grass is growing, then plowing drives and lots and salting walks once growth stops. Each has its own specific pleasure — a lawn striped even in the evening light, and a driveway opened wide before the sun is up. Nothing about a Whiteside County winter is gentle, and nothing about a Midwest August is easy on turf. The craft is being ready for whichever one is currently happening.
