About D & M Landscaping & Excavating, L.L.C.

Winter arrives in Spring Valley off the water first — fog standing over the Illinois River bottoms, then a hard white line moving up the bluff and into town. D & M Landscaping & Excavating, L.L.C. is out in it early, headlights swinging across driveways on streets that have known coal dust and river wind in equal measure. Plow blade down, salt spread thin and even, walks cut open wide enough for two people to pass each other. There is a particular satisfaction in a drive that is already black and clear by the time the porch light comes on. The storm gets its say; the pavement gets the last word.
