Call Eddie

About Call Eddie

Out in Santa Anna Township the roads run straight until they run into corn, and the yards along them keep their own kind of order. Call Eddie holds up that order with steady week-to-week mowing, trimming close along fence posts and mailbox stands, and edging until the line beside the walk goes clean and deliberate. There is a plain pleasure in the last pass at mid-morning, when the grass lies over all one direction and the whole lot looks combed. Summer thunder builds in the west, the air turns green before it breaks, and afterward everything grows twice as fast, which is simply the job. Come autumn the work shifts to leaf raking and a season-end cleanup that leaves a DeWitt County yard bare, tidy and ready for the cold.
