Chris's Tree Service

About Chris's Tree Service

Late October along the township roads near Salina, the light goes long and gold and every hedgerow reads like a pencil drawing — which is exactly when the shape of a tree, and its trouble, is easiest to see. Chris's Tree Service works these farmsteads and back lots, thinning windbreak maples, pruning the yard trees that lean a little too far toward a porch roof, and taking down what the creek timber has finally undercut. Illinois weather does not negotiate: when a line of storms leaves a drive blocked and a shade tree split down the trunk, the fix is a saw, a truck and a few hours of steady hauling. None of the work announces itself once it is done — the brush is gone, the wheel tracks are raked out, and the place simply looks like itself again. That ending, plain and orderly, is the part worth taking pride in.
