Fox Lawn Service

About Fox Lawn Service

Winter on this stretch of Sangamon County arrives sideways — nothing much stands between here and the next fencerow, so the snow piles right where the drive meets the road. Fox Lawn Service is out ahead of the alarm clocks on those mornings, plowing drives, opening walks and steps down to the pavement, and putting salt on the ice that set up hard overnight. Come the warm half of the year the same trucks run mowing routes through the village, trimming and edging, and clearing the cuttings off the walks. There's a plain pleasure in both jobs: an open driveway before the coffee finishes, a lawn standing level by noon. The work changes shape; the standard doesn't.
