The first mow of the year is the best one. Somewhere in April, along the old Sauk Trail corridor and the streets that grew up around it in Rich Township, the grass finally means it, and Jesse's Lawn Care Services makes the season's opening pass — cleanup first, winter litter and matted leaves out of the beds, then the cut, the edge, the trim, the sweep. After that it is weekly service until the leaves come down and the fall cleanup closes things out. Edging is where the effort reads: a straight seam along the walk makes an entire front yard look intentional. And the smell of that first cut carries three houses down.
