West of Red Bud the ground falls away toward the Mississippi bottoms, and the year out here comes in two clear halves. In the green half, R and N Outdoor Services keeps lawns mowed on a rhythm, trimmed around posts and foundations, and edged along the drive so the line reads clean from the road. In the white half those same properties get plowed and shoveled, with salt laid down where wind packs a drift back in overnight. Working both ends of the calendar means knowing a yard the whole way around, where water stands in April and where snow always piles in January. The reward is the same in either season: a place that plainly looks looked-after.
