Head east out of Quincy and the streets give way to section roads, corn on both sides and a wind with nothing to lean against. Emrick Outdoor Maintenance mows and trims yards in that open country and in town, then turns to plowing when the same wind starts pushing snow into drifts across a lane. Out here a drive can fill in twice in one night, so clearing it is less a task than a habit. There is quiet pride in a lane opened all the way to the road before the school bus comes through. Quincy, Fowler, Mendon and the towns between them are the run.
