Winter arrives in Plano from the northwest, straight down off the prairie with nothing much to slow it, and by morning the driveways along Route 34 are drifted shut. J&A Quality Lawncare & Landscape LLC is out in it before the streetlights go off, plowing drives and clearing walks so the day can start on time. Come April the same trucks trade blades for mowers, and the work turns to weekly cutting, trimming and keeping edges honest along the sidewalks. Both halves of the year carry their own reward: black pavement steaming in the cold, and later, a fresh-cut yard in the long Midwestern evening. Plano gets both from the same hands.
