At noon in mid-July the Plainfield water tower shimmers above the rooftops and the pavement hands back everything the morning gave it. SRJ Lawn Care is out in it anyway, laying stripes down long backyards, trimming around fences and mailbox posts, running the edge where turf meets concrete. The clippings get cleared off the walk and drive so the finish is the last thing anyone sees. Heat is just part of the season here; the lawns still need to look like somebody stood in them. Plainfield and the towns a short drive out.
